What Are The Requirements and Regulations for Outdoor Hot Tubs in Nevada?

A pool is a major investment, and finally taking the plunge to install one is an exciting time. However, planning to put a Bullfrog spa, custom hot tub, or pool in your backyard isn’t something that everyone is an expert in. The team at Robert Allen Pools is available to help you every step of the way.

Make sure to take a quick look at Nevada’s state requirements for putting in a pool as these requirements apply to both in-ground and above ground pools, spas, and hot tubs.

Here are a few fast facts that you should keep in mind:

  • Lighting outlets, fans, or outdoor lights should not be installed over hot tubs or in an extended five foot area
  • All construction plans should detail proposed work that is in accordance with the 2012 International Residential Code
  • While Nevada regulations state a cover is optional, lockable covers can be used in lieu of a safety fence entirely
  • Hot tubs plans must have the view, cross-sections, while featuring the amenities like water features, safety devices, diving boards, slides, and hand holds
  • Outdoor hot tubs need either 110V or 220V of electricity but if you choose the latter, an electrician will need to confirm there’s enough electricity to power it
  • The maximum mesh size for any chain link fencing is 1.25 square inches
  • If a hot tub is going on the deck, a reinforced concrete pad at least four inches deep, or either interlocking spa pads or concrete pavers will suffice
  • Underground wiring should not be installed under or within the area extending five feet horizontally from the walls of the hot tubs except for when the wiring is installed to supply its equipment.
